The Holy Ghost & Pentecost — Power from Heaven!

Start with a Friendly Hook:

“Ever wish you had power, peace, or purpose that came from outside yourself? God has exactly that — and He wants to give it to you personally. It’s called the Holy Ghost, and it’s not weird or scary… it’s life-changing.”

📖 1. What is the Holy Ghost?
    •    The Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit) is God’s Spirit living in us.

📖 “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” — John 14:17 (KJV)
    •    It’s not a “force” or a “feeling” — it’s God Himself coming to dwell inside you.

2. What Happened on Pentecost?
    •    Pentecost was a Jewish festival (50 days after Passover).
    •    On the first Pentecost after Jesus rose from the dead, Acts 2 says:
    •    120 believers were praying in an upper room.
    •    Suddenly, they were filled with the Holy Ghost.
    •    They began to speak in other tongues — languages they didn’t know.

📖 “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” — Acts 2:4 (KJV)
    •    This was the birth of the Church and still happens today!

 3. What Happens When You Receive the Holy Ghost?
    •    You get:
    •   Power to live for God
📖 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me…” — Acts 1:8 (KJV)
    •   Spiritual language (tongues) as a sign
📖 “And these signs shall follow them that believe… they shall speak with new tongues.” — Mark 16:17 (KJV)
    •   God’s love poured into your heart
📖 “…because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” — Romans 5:5 (KJV)
    •   Peace, joy, and connection to the Spirit
📖 “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” — Romans 14:17 (KJV)

4. Why Speaking in Tongues?
    •    It’s the initial evidence that you’ve received the Spirit:

📖 “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” — Acts 2:4 (KJV)
📖 “For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.” — Acts 10:46 (KJV)
📖 “And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.” — Acts 19:6 (KJV)
    •    It’s a miraculous sign — not something you can fake or force.
    •    Tongues show that God is taking control of your most powerful tool: your mouth!

5. Is It Essential?
    •    Yes. The Holy Ghost is part of the New Birth Jesus talked about:

📖 “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” — John 3:5 (KJV)
    •    Peter said:

📖 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” — Acts 2:38 (KJV)
    •    It’s not optional — it’s a promise for you:

📖 “For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.” — Acts 2:39 (KJV)
    •    It’s how we are sealed and empowered for eternal life:

📖 “Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” — Romans 8:9 (KJV)
📖 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.” — Ephesians 1:13 (KJV)

6. How Do I Receive the Holy Ghost?
    •    You don’t have to earn it — it’s a gift:

📖 “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” — Luke 11:13 (KJV)
    •    Here’s what to do:
    1.    Repent — Turn away from sin and turn your heart fully to God.
    2.    Desire it — Be hungry for all God has for you.
    3.    Worship out loud — Praise Jesus from your heart.
    4.    Yield — When you feel the Spirit moving, let your tongue speak what God gives — don’t overthink it!

Real Talk: What Does it Feel Like?
    •    Some feel fire, some feel peace, some cry or laugh — everyone’s different.
    •    But everyone who receives the Spirit will speak in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.
    •    It’s beautiful, powerful, and personal — like heaven touching earth.

 Bottom Line

“The Holy Ghost isn’t just for Bible times — it’s for YOU. Today. Right now.”

📖 “For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off…” — Acts 2:39 (KJV)
